英语时态小结：过去进行时用法

一、 句型结构
1， 肯定句
was/were doing
She was reading while her brotherwas watching TV.
她哥哥看电视时她正在看书。
They were drivingto New York when the accident happened.
事故发生时他们正开车去纽约。
The salesman was tryingto persuade the old man into buying something.
推销员正试图说服老人买他的产品。
People were living a horrible life before they were freed.
人们在被解放前过着可怕的生活。
2， 否定句
was not (wasn"t) / were not (weren"t) doing
He wasn’t working at the company in 2009.
2009年他不在公司工作。
The students weren’t doing experiment in the lab.
学生们没有在实验室里做实验。
3, 疑问句及回答
was / were +主语 + doing
Was she waiting for the kids to come back then?
那时她在等孩子们回来吗？
Were the students wearingtheir uniforms?
学生们穿校服了吗？
What were you doingbefore mother got home?
妈妈回家前你们在做什么？
二、用法1，表示过去某段时间正在进行的动作。 When he arrived at 9:30 am, two people were waiting outside the office.
当他早上9:30到办公室时，有两个人在外面等着他。
It was a dark night. The wind was blowing hard and the rain was falling heavily.
那是一个漆黑的夜晚。狂风怒号，暴雨如注。
2，过去一个动作发生时，另一个动作正在进行中.While we were having maths the head master broke into the classroom.
我们在上数学课时，校长闯了进来。
Mary was making a dress when she cut her finger. 玛丽割破手指时正在做衣服。
3，过去时间里两件事同时发生. While Mr. Atkins was reading the newspaper, his wife Mrs. Atkins was preparing the dinner.
阿特金斯先生在看报纸的时候，他的妻子阿特金斯太太正在准备晚餐。
两件事同时发生，一般用while表示“当…时候”（不要用when）
